On the 21st August 2007, Sumito and I attended the formal celebration for the 61st Indonesian National Day at the ICC, Bandar Seri Begawan, on invitation by Pak Jacobson, Deputy Chief of the Indonesian Embassy. It was an exciting dinner event, complete with Indonesian songs (especially the keroncong tunes)and traditional dances. The food served was also very tasty...the usual fare one would expect from the Indonesian Isles. Of course a bowl of hot-steaming 'Bakso' or 'Soto Ayam' would have been most welcome but.....we'll go to Pondok Sari Wangi for that later. The guests, especially the Indonesian nationals who are living in Brunei attended the dinner event in their best outfits. The men dressed in their uniquely Indonesian-printed batik shirts and the ladies in their best 'kebayas' (that really complement their svelte figures.....he, he, he).....all in all, it was an exciting night..... Well, you are right in your posting that Indonesia still faces many problems even after 61 years of nationhood......but come to think of it.....all nations face the same issues, albeit in varying degrees of intensity or pressures. Nevertheless, we had a great time at the dinner event...
