Care to community - Helping hand to a friend from the file of Starwood Care by Sumantri

Bandar Seribegawan September 2003. Associates at the Sheraton Utama Hotel showed just how caring they are for their fellow Associates when they gave more than a helping hand to a friend in need. Jauyah binti Mokti, from the Stewarding Department, was in desperate need of blood donors for her critical open-heart surgery. A call for arms was dispatched throughout the hotel.
When our associates heard of her predicament, they were filled with compassion and jumped into action by spreading the word around. In a matter of time, there were six who willingly stretched out their arms; they were Endang Sumantri an Executive Housekeeper, Jiffry Zain, one of the Chief Engineers, Zulasmin Noor, one of the Restaurants Manager, Dk. Kemariah Pg Hi Duraman, the Sales Manager, Karim, a bellman, and Mr. Lee, a contractor currently working on hotel renovations.
Donating blood is a courageous act and a selfless gift to boot. When asked what prompted her into action, Dk. Kemariah said she empathized with Jauyah's need for blood donors as she had been in a similar situation before. Her greater motivation was her hope that if ever her own children were in need of blood for a transfusion or life-saving surgery, there would be others who are just as willing to help. Endang was just as benevolent when he said that it was just the right thing to do by helping others however and whenever possible.
Jauyah has since had her open-heart surgery at the GlenEagle Jerudong Park Medical Center. Her operation lasted six hours and she is now recovering slowly at home. She expresses her thanks to her valiant and compassionate Associates for their incredible support and commends them for their exemplary kindness.

Oh yes! We are going to have a great time!", say the organizers of the Annual Associates Mid-Year Party. This year, except for those on duty working to keep the hotel in tip-top form, everyone piled into their cars and headed to the beach with bags filled with sun-lotion and snacks enough to feed an army!
Mr. Endang Sumantri, Chairperson of the Sheraton Sports and Social Club at Sheraton Utama, and his committee took care of everything one could possibly need at a beach party. Tents were set up, the barbecue pits were roaring to go, and the in-house band was "packed" along for "live" music while wacky and hilarious games were planned for everyone aged 5 to 50! All their efforts did, of course, pay off and many participants also went home with fabulous prizes.
After this fantastic party out in the sun, everyone were delighted to cruise home with smiles, a fresh tan glowing on their faces, and another bag of happy memories to add to life with Sheraton Utama.

Customer Service - Care to the guest from the file of Starwood Care 2002.
Bandar Seribegawan 2002.Jenny, our GSA, was discussing preferred SPG Platinum benefits with our hotel guest, Mr. Andrew Creevey, as he was checking into the Sheraton Utama Hotel.
Mr. Creevey asked if he could get help in getting a pair of shoes because he had left his shoes in Bangkok and urgently needed a pair to wear for an important presentation. He needed the shoes right away. Nanetta, our RSA, took the initiative to discuss it with the Front Office Manager, Mr. Ho Guan Hui.
Because our guest needed a pair of shoes immediately, he agreed to borrow a pair if necessary. Nanetta and Mr. Ho Guan Hui then proceeded to find someone among the Associates who wore the same shoe size as Mr. Creevey. In their shoe search, they discovered that Executive Housekeeper, Mr. E. Sumantri wore the same shoe size as our Hotel Guest! Mr. Sumantri willing agreed to help out our guest.
The shoes were then polished and sent to the guest. Mr. Creevey was extremely pleased with the assistance and attention that was given to him over a pair of shoes, which he needed to wear for his presentation. He was so impressed and appreciative of what was done for him that he came to reception before his presentation to show the Associates how well the shoes did fit. At checkout Mr. Creevey asked for Nanetta and thanked her personally for the 'caring' assistance and attention given to his shoe predicament.
Mr. Andrew Creevey then wrote a letter to the General Manager, Paul Richardson, praising the level of service given to him as a hotel guest. "I would like to make a special mention of the service that was extended to me by Ms. Nanetta. I had forgotten to pack a pair of black business shoes and was faced with the prospect of doing my presentation to Brunei Shell in jeans! Nanetta came to the rescue by locating a pair of shoes at housekeeping. This obviously saved the day for me. You should be very proud of Ms. Nanetta's display of going the extra mile in this cause."
Thank you to all Associates who were a part of 'caring for our guest', and to Mr. Sumantri for loaning his shoes to our guest, and to Nanetta for taking the opportunity and time to 'Care For Our Guest', to anticipate his needs, to value the importance of a pair of shoes to our guest, and to swiftly move to action to ensure that his needs were met during his stay at the Sheraton Utama Hotel.
A special thank you and recognition to Mr. Sumantri for 'sharing' and to Nanetta for 'caring'! Just another 'caring' example of the level of service offered by our Sheraton Utama Hotel Associates!

Brunei Darussalam, 11 August 2001. Staff from the Sheraton Utama Hotel made an educational visit to the Royal Regalia recently. The tour was organised by the Sheraton Sports and Social Club (SSSC) committee and was led by Mr. Zamri Haji Mahmud, Secretary to Mr. Endang Sumantri, Chairperson of the SSSC committee.
This is one of many educational field trips that the SSSC has organised for the Hotel's employees. These trips are aimed at increasing the awareness of foreign staff about the traditions and culture of Brunei Darussalam as well as to refresh local employees' knowledge of the history and happenings in Brunei.
"It is surprising that not many locals actually come and visit the Royal Regalia and take the time to learn the local culture and history of Brunei," said one of the attendants at the Museum.
These field trips are also part of the Sheraton CARE Programme. It is the commitment of the hotel to take care of both its guests and employees. To ensure that the employees are able to achieve the goal of caring for their guests, the hotel has to take care of its employees first. A well cared for employee will in turn take better care of the guests.
